Problem of moral assessment in Artistic Sphere

likeThe first problem of artistic sphere as an object of study is ambivalence of behavior and, representation of its participants: on the one hand, world of art is different because of subtlety and vulnerability of artists, and on the other hand – it is well thought out business.

So, an etiquette in artistic sphere is some kind of necessary evil: the guarantee of ability to build business relationships, not to hurt an artist; as well as, way to perform yourself. Etiquette as a rule set to regulate self-representation partly working in world of art, too. Mostly, those rules have negative form, as usual: you shouldn`t look through person you talk too, you shouldn`t beg for a meeting, you mustn`t talk about money straightly.

However, rationing and moral assessment are at a loss by several factors, specific to art sphere:

1. Speaking about post conceptual art, it`s nearly impossible to draw the line between artist personality and his work. Artist is becoming a center of his product. The way he represents things – is inalienable part of his figure. Modern art needs reflection, so it needs a contest: history of creature, references to author personality and analysis of artists life period in moment of creation. Thus, moral assessment, simultaneously is given both for work and artist: works of Peter Pavlenskij ang Poina Musika forming, as well, their personal image, as person who reliable for social massage of the work.

2. Ignoring the rules of etiquette can be perceived as actionists performance or, as a part of representation of artist. Etiquettes border violation could be an instrument of artist. Here is the main problem of moral assessment coming: if we could blame an artist for self-realisation? The writer Andrew Berardini says that artists, who ignore etiquette, as usual, achieve confession only after their death.

That’s why young and not famous authors are trying to act in decorum, while masters can afford to themselves to forget a name or to speak to gallerist first. On the other hand, straight going with rules, as well can be a reason to exclude newbie from the artist world. Person in creative sphere is not only a business agent, – he is a part of artist community and meticulously following rules is, in one moment, – breaking those rules. Steffanie Jamison, as the main point of moral assessment postulates relevance.

If image of the artists requires catchy statements and kitsch behavior – then, it is suitable. If kitsch is done for the kitsch and isn`t backed up with confidence in ability to ignore etiquette, then artist loses. To make sum, we are appearing with a question: how moral assessment could be declared, if ignoring moral principles doesn’t entails negative moral assessment, and following rules doesn’t mean confession.
